It is reported that the Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora confirmed that submissions by the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (“BAZ”) on how to make the “99 year leases bankable” would be sent to the Attorney General’s office to be “scrutinized”.
It is reported that the Government wants the 99 leases to be treated as collateral. On the other hand it is reported that the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe consider the leases as not transferable.
The Government is treating this issue as “work in progress”.
